Weekend Preview: Fire Burning |
The Wenatchee Fire travel north...way north...to take on your Prince George Fury this Saturday at 2:00pm and 7:30pm. For everything that has gone wrong this season in terms of results on the boards...two things are certain. 1) This team can compete, and 2) It's only a matter of time. Here's some news and notes from around the team heading into this weekend.
- We will see the debut of Tyler Wood on Saturday in either one or both games. Tyler is a big, strong target man and should compliment Sipho (if he plays) on the forward line. Assuming we see a similar lineup from the opening 4 games, the trio of Andrew Green, Sibiya and Wood should be tough to move from the goal.
- Matt Mehrassa currently leads the league in points (14), and up until a few days ago, lead the league in goals, assists, points and was 2nd in shots. Matt's 8 goals and 6 assists are the highest by a long way on a talented Fury squad. Tyson von den Steinen and Sipho Sibiya sit 2nd in team scoring with 6 points (4+2).
- Jon Lafontaine sits 2nd in PIM in the CMISL with 13, a category he was leading until a few days ago. Joao Mederios and Eric Pegura are 2nd and 3rd, each credited with 5 minutes spent in the box.
- Unless something drastic happens, it looks as if we will see a new goaltender suit up for the games this weekend, possibly even two. David Mocilac is fully healed, Jeff Rakochy has been waiting patiently and Rob Deol has been impressive in training. It's unknown who will get the start or starts this weekend, however we will have a clearer picture on Thursday.
Come out to the games, bring a friend or two or three, and enjoy some high quality action. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster online, or you can purchase them at the door. If you can't make it to the game, surf your way to www.princegeorgefury.com and take in all the action from North America's best all-Oceanic broadcast team, Alex Rawnsley and Damian Meehan, live from the CN Centre. The Final Countdown to Kickoff goes live at 1:45 and 7:15, covering all the events of the day, and keeping you up to date with all things Fury. |
